Shipping & Delivery

Free 5-7 day delivery is available to all UK customers. Often you’ll get your lovely picture a little sooner than this.

Worldwide shipping is available but takes a little longer.

Need your picture in a hurry? Order by 4pm and select priority shipping at checkout and we’ll post your order the next working day (we do need a little time for the ink to dry)!

All orders are posted using Parcelforce24 so you should receive your lovely picture the following working day. You’ll be notified via text message that the order is on it’s way to you and emailed full tracking details too.

Find out more about shipping & delivery here

We use Parcelforce 24hr delivery. You will get an email from us with tracking and a text message from Parcelforce advising of delivery times and options should you not be in. A card will be left advising a missed delivery. Occasionally if they can’t find an address further text will be sent. It’s important to enter the recipient mobile number so they can receive shipping updates. If the parcel gets returned to us then we will have to check, repack and resend which is unfortunately chargeable at £10. We do want to ensure the picture reaches the recipient as soon as possible, in perfect condition.

Certainly! We have shipped to nearly 40 different countries in the 14 years we’ve been operating. We have found however that due to the amount of time a product will be in the courier’s hands (dainty as they are) breakages are more common on overseas orders. We have therefore decided that we will only ship unframed products internationally up to a 30x40cm size. This helps keep shipping costs low for you and minimises the risk of breakages. The size is a standardised one and the recipient should be easily able to pick up a frame in a local store.

Gone are the days of wrapping endless amounts of single use plastic bubble wrap around your pictures! Glass has now been phased out enabling us to use a very clever packaging system that’s been designed to protect the pictures perfectly during its journey from us to you using minimal plastic waste.

We now use an cushion of ‘card and air’ within a smart box designed around your picture. Frames are now suspended in this smart box that incorporates a car style crumple-zone designed to absorb shocks during transit for when those dainty delivery partners become not so dainty with your lovely gifts.

Your box may look simple but it’s one of the cleverest systems around and at the same time we’re saving the planet.

About your Photographs

The photos are taken from various points around the dramatic coastlines of South West England; most are taken in West Cornwall around St Ives bay.

Whenever possible we try to include a writeup of the morning including conditions and where the photograph was taken from. If you are unsure get in touch and we’ll be able to dig out the meta data to confirm where and when it was taken.

Every day of the year we aim to send a photographer out well before dawn to capture the start of a new day. They may arrive at the beach anywhere from 04:00am through to 07.30am depending on the ever changing sunrise time.

We aim to capture all pictures at dawn as we feel this makes for the most beautiful picture. The beaches are empty, the seas are usually calmer, it’s a special time of the day. When light or visibility is very poor the photographer may revisit later in the day to capture an alternative image for that day. All sunrise times and photographer notes are detailed next to the images from that day.

Everyone loves a good sunrise and we’d love to promise one each morning. The reality however is that we’re at the mercy of the UK weather. Sometimes it can be kind, other times it can be very, very cruel! The talented (and brave) team are trained to adapt and tackle the elements head on.

Our ethos is to capture a new day dawning, whatever the weather. Our customers are connecting with the emotion of a new day. We aim to capture styles which will print beautifully and serve as an everlasting memento of your special day.

The team will always try to capture the sun rising if it appears. On the days it doesn’t they will incorporate foreground scenery, long exposures and talented techniques and composition to capture something arty and special.

If you don’t like the pictures on offer we are trialling the ability for you to supply us a picture from the day of your choice. We will bring this into the studio, check for print suitability, and personalise the image along with the message of your choice. Please contact the studio for further information.

Available across any type of frame, the sizing of our framed products range is featured as follows. You can also opt to have these mounted only or print only if you want to source your own frame.

21×29.7cm (A4)
30x 40cm
40x50cm
50x70cm
60x80cm

There are options to have both landscape and portrait orientated photographs.

All dimensions stated are the internal frame size, which is the same as the glass size, which is the same as the external mount size.

Therefore as an example a 40x50cm framed product will have a fractionally larger outer measurement when hung on the wall. Using this size as an example external dimensions will be roughly 44x54cm, and vary slightly should you order a thicker wood frame or thinner metal one.

If you order a mounted product then the aperture (picture area) will be approximately 30x40cm (using the 40×50 example above) – to allow balance and space for the surrounding mount

We offer a full range of sizes and frame options to suit your requirements with the aim to suit most budgets.

The Frames:

FSC accredited wood, and beautiful sleek metal options make up our framed range. The options have been chosen based on popular demand for a modern look which compliment our photographs on any given day.

– Black and White Wood provide a modern colourway in a timeless white or black design
– Oak frame for that more traditional grained wooden appearance
– Whitewash (distressed white) is a frame with a slightly grained look for that more modern ‘beach house’ effect
– Silver and Black metal frames offer a sleek, thinner design.

See our page about what frame to choose for more information.

At the end of the day, it’s down to personal preference.

Our frames have been chosen to complement the range of styles we shoot at The Day That.

If you’re unsure, then please do call us to discuss the day in question on 01392 793107 and we will do our best to advise. You can always order an unframed mountset and let the recipient choose the frame later themselves.

See our page about what frame to choose for more information.

Our photographers use their artistic judgement to pick the most beautiful photo from each day, due to certain lighting conditions occasionally a black and white photo is the best option.

Every day of the year we have at least one TDT photographer on the rota going out well before dawn to take your stunning photos. They feed back a writeup from the dawn and these are listed alongside the choices from the day. Find out more about the team here.

Each photograph has a source file containing embedded metadata, which cannot be erased or altered. This is equivalent to the photographs DNA and proves the date and time of capture.

We store copies of all RAW image files complete with metadata, so if you’re super-curious then get in touch and we can send along the metadata for the image in question – all the way back to 2005!

We will never falsify the daily images or integrity of our selection with ‘borrowing’ photos from a different date.

Of course! We encourage you to personalise your gift as much as possible. When you order your chosen photo you will be given an option to change the default wording to the message of your choice (up to 55 characters). That’s what makes it so special.

Find out more about personalisation here.

Absolutely! Please see our custom requests page for more information.

Unfortunately our library only extends back to that date. We apologise if the special date you require is before then. If you have an image that you would like us to print then by all means send it along and we can see what can be done – visit our custom requests page for more information.

It’s rare, but unfortunate, that in some circumstances our photographers are unable to take a suitable photograph for a specific day. This could be due to the weather, logistics, or simply a genuine malfunction with the rota (or alarm clock).

We don’t like having days missing, but we will never falsify the daily images or integrity of our selection with photos from a different date.

All photos are printed on pH neutral archival paper using an Epson UltraChromeTM Ink System. This produces a professional archival quality print standard.

In English this means they are epic! The detail is super clear and they will continue to look stunning for many years to come. They can be printed huge without loss of detail.

No, there is no significant manipulation. The picture you see in the library is the exact photograph taken on that day at that time. Some slight adjustments to colour balance, saturation and contrast may be made to create the best possible finish.

Occasionally the odd photobombing seagull or skinny-dipper will be removed from the photograph where sensible to do so.

If you opt for a framed print then the glazing we will use Clarity+ acrylic glazing. This doesn’t scratch or break easily, and in our opinion outperforms glass on every level. Now you can enjoy your stunning sunrise prints and experience an astounding level of clarity not available before.

The pictures appear razor sharp and colour more vibrant than ever. The Clarity+ glazing has a high UV resistance and doesn’t yellow over time, so there’s less to distract you from your picture. What’s more this has also vastly helped cut down our single use plastics used in packaging up the traditional glass pictures.

Product Care

For unframed products it is recommended not to remove the cellophane wrapping until you are ready to place in a frame.

For framed products you may need to remove the blue safety film from our Clarity+ glazing before hanging. It’s fully recyclable, along with all of our other packaging.

To prolong the lifetime of your picture we advise hanging your product away from direct sunlight or areas that may be exposed to excessive moisture or temperature variations.

If you need to clean your picture, lightly damp a soft cloth and gently wipe the surface. We don’t recommend spraying any cleaning solution directly onto the product or glazing. Cleaning acrylic is simple, as our step-by-step guide below shows. Find out more on our care page here

To prolong the lifetime of your picture we advise hanging your product away from direct sunlight or areas that may be exposed to excessive moisture or temperature variations.

Cleaning products are best avoided and instead lightly dampen a soft cloth.

If the photograph needs to be stored (while moving house for example) it’s best to wrap in some protective sheeting until you are ready to hang it again.

Your beautiful picture should stay beautiful for many years as long as it’s looked after correctly. All methods and materials we use have been stipulated by the Fine Art Trade Guild meaning everything is done professionally and correctly and looked after well should last a lifetime.

Your order is handmade and personalised just for you. Premium mouldings made from real wood and designer aluminium result in durable handmade frames with unmatched surface finishes.

Returns & Refunds

In 2018 we only had 1 returned item so the chances are that if you’re reading this you really won’t ever need to return your item to us!

Full returns information can be found here, but in summary as all photographs are personalised we regret that we are unable to accept returns if you simply change your mind.

If your item is damaged or an unacceptable quality then naturally we will do everything possible to put it right and issue a replacement.

Before ordering please carefully view the preview of your chosen image and any personalisation added to check you are happy with your photograph. We can’t be held liable for any mistakes or typos that are provided to us (like the groom who got his wedding date wrong).

In the unlikely event your photograph or frame is damaged in transit please contact us immediately. We will arrange for a replacement sent to you at no cost right away.

We do however ask that you send us a photograph of the damage so we can raise this with the couriers.
